The Christmas service at St Francis church reminded us of the Christmas story and its significance to Christians, as well as giving us the opportunity to sing carols together one last time for 2017.

Key Stage Two Results
We are extremely proud of our results from 2017 that were published yesterday.
78% of our pupils achieved national standards across reading, writing and maths combined (17% higher than the national average) and 16% of our pupils achieved the ‘exceeding’ attainment level across the three subjects (double the national average). This places our academy third in the Bournemouth and Poole borough for the levels that our pupils have achieved. Progress between the end of Key Stage One and the end of Key Stage Two was in line with national expectations in Reading and above national benchmarks in writing and maths.
Whilst we performed well in all subject areas, achievement within writing, including grammar, punctuation and spelling, and maths was a particular strength, with 95% of our pupils achieving the expected standard in writing and 92% achieving the standard in maths. Further to this, an astounding 62% of last year’s Year Six pupils achieved the ‘exceeding’ level in their spelling, punctuation and grammar test.
Such achievement is the product of high quality teaching, not just in Year Six but across the academy, and, most importantly, the hard work of the children involved. Congratulations everyone!
Primary School Christmas Musical
The performances of ‘Primary School Christmas Musical’ this week were absolutely fabulous. The school performed this parody of a nativity production amazingly well with everyone singing their hearts out and actors from across the year groups seizing their roles with confidence and vigour. Many thanks to the staff and children for all of their hard work over the last few weeks – it certainly paid off!
Christmas card competition
Congratulations to 2 of our pupils who won the Christmas card competition run by the Mosaic charity, who provide support for children who have suffered bereavement in their lives. Their cards have been published and are being sold by the charity.
Hooke Court
Year 5 had a fantastic time at Hooke Court and were fully immersed into Tudor life…
Christmas Hampers
The Christmas hampers have been created and look great! Many thanks to everyone for their kind donations and to the PTA for their hard work to prepare these amazing prizes. The draws for each class will be held on Monday.
Narrative writing
There has been some amazing narrative writing in Year 4 this week. Here is an example of the opening to one story from 4P:
In the middle of her wrinkly face, that was covered in plenty of warts, was a pair of unblinking eyes scanning Kacey as she trembled across the room holding steadily a saucer, spoon and the delicate china cup filled with pure sugared tea. In the upper right corner of the room, next to the slightly opened window, which had beige curtains, was grumpy Grandma slouched in her chair, her back arched and an angry expression on her face.
PTA mufti and Christmas Jumper Day
This Friday, 8th December, the pupils are invited to wear their own clothes in return for bringing in a donation towards a class Christmas hamper. Information about the relevant item to bring in has been distributed, but please seek clarification from your child’s class teacher should it be required. The raffle draws for the hampers will follow next week.
On Monday 11th December the school council have set up a Christmas jumper day. In return for a £1 donation, pupils can wear a Christmas jumper over the top of their normal uniform. The money raised will be donated to Save The Children.
